VAN PERSIE v SUNDERLAND (H) 07-10-2007Robin van Persie makes his third appearance in this week's countdown with the opening goal of Arsenal's 3-2 win over Sunderland in October 2007.
The Gunners had dominated from the off at Emirates Stadium, so it was no surprise when Abou Diaby drove into the top corner with seven minutes played. However, Cesc Fabregas had been fouled in the build-up and the referee had already stopped play, meaning the goal didn't stand.
But it didn't matter. Van Persie whipped home the resulting free-kick from the edge of the area.
It was a vicious hit from the Dutch striker and Sunderland keeper Craig Gordon was left helpless as the shot powered in off the crossbar.
Philippe Senderos extended Arsenal's lead shortly after the opener but a Sunderland fightback saw them level just after half time. Fortunately for Arsenal, Van Persie was on hand to strike the winner 10 minutes from time.
